DJ Ryan Milano Provides the Soundtrack to Your Life

Ryan Milano has an impressive resume under his belt. He's been a DJ for 12 years and performed alongside artists Dirty Vegas, Slash of Guns N' Roses, Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake, to name a few. He's currently working on video DJ shows and edits. Get to know Ryan Milano a little better through the featured interview below:

Where you have been:
In my 12 years as a professional DJ, I have been blessed enough to play in over five different countries in some major cities such as:  Las Vegas, Vancouver BC, Los Angeles, St. Louis, London, Dublin, Seattle, Cancun, and Anchorage. Each city has its own vibe with celebrity filled pool parties to swanky lounge's and posh jam packed super clubs. Chances are, I have worked both more than once.

Where you are going:
This year, I plan to seek out talent representation in an attempt to broaden my South Eastern U.S. and Southern European markets. I hope to lock in tour dates for my upcoming CD release. I believe that I have so much left to do, and I mean to get to it. So, with a lot of help and some luck, 2010 could be a blessing for everyone involved in the project.

How did you get started:I have read this question over a thousand times from various DJs, Artists, and Performers -each one with their own perspective of where and when it all made sense for them. To be honest, for me it’s all about the music. I enjoy the warm analog sound of percussion and soul, polished off with each legend's personal touch. Music is the only thing in my life that can change my mood with the flip of a dial. If your eyes are your movie camera, recording your life in real time, then your ears must be the microphone. As a DJ, I enjoy providing the soundtrack to your life.

What is the most outlandish thing you have seen at a club:
Most working DJs could tell you amazing and unbelievable sights - if we could all remember them. [Laughs]. So, instead of singling out one various memory, I would rather pose a warning to you future fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, significant others and grandparents -at any given time, no matter the city or place. Anything is possible. We all are our own worst enemies.

What you would never spin: Five years ago, I would have said everything except hip-hop, but as I grow further into my profession, I learn that all genres have great qualities. It is really up to us, the DJs, to manipulate the best parts of each -making my set into a musical roller coaster full of eras of hits and underground goodies. No matter if it is boot-legged or a custom remix you should never say you do not play one thing. Though, I would be dishonest if I didn't say as a DJ that 50 percent of the time, I do not listen to what I play in my own ride.

Dumb questions people ask:
"Will you play that one song"? Seriously wish I had ESP sometimes. Also,"Hey can I get on the tables for a bit", NO!! But the worst is, "Hey can you sell me some drugs"? Idiots, not all DJ's do drugs, because I have never. Also why would you ask the DJ that anyways? Everyone knows you ask the bottle host or promoter. [Laughs].

Your favorite DJ:
There are a few people I enjoy listening to from time to time, but for the sake of making my friends' egos any bigger, I will not call them out by name. [Laughs].

Best job ever:
So far, it has to be being apart of the grand opening year at MGM Grand's Wet Republic Ultra Pool in Las Vegas. Working with Angel Music Group and MGM's staff was a great way to educate myself further with event promotions and nightlife networking. Not to mention being apart of the resident DJ staff along with countless performers such as Ludacris, P. Diddy and Kaskade.

Where you will be in 10 years:
In 10 years, I hope to be happily rich. Honestly, everything I work for is to support my crack and hooker habit. [Laughs]. I also pray to have traveled and done all the shows possible, cause lord knows I'm not going to be able to do this forever. But hey, I guess I can sleep when I'm dead right?

3 Words that describe you:
1) Fluent
2) Symmetry
3) Insistent

What people would never know about you:
I secretly went to the academy and became an undercover DEA agent so I could falsely accuse all these other DJs of being smugglers and dealers in hopes to secure their gigs from them. Or maybe Rolling Stones Magazine wrote that I was the, "Song Bird," of my generation and handed me a trophy with my name engraved on it - that I hung in my bathroom above my diamond plated thrown.

If you weren't a DJ, what would you would be:
I would be the next contestant on Ninja Warrior in hopes to land my own show, which I would promptly name, "Americans Will Watch Anything," for which I will cast Ryan Seacrest and Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump. My first episode would be 30 minutes of Snookie from MTV's Jersey Shore trying to taste the difference between Jiffy and Peter Pan Peanut Butter. Or maybe just a close up of her eating a whole jar of pickles with the song "Afternoon Delight" playing on repeat.

What you do for fun:
If this interview isn't enough fun as is. [Laughs]. I enjoy close friends, family, and everyday adventures. Bit of advice to you the person reading this. Not all DJs are the same. Some of us take our work seriously. So next time you make your way to a club, event, or a pool, please know that we enjoy making your experience memorable for you.

Scorpions Call It Quits: Last Album and Tour Announced

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- After the release of their next album (Sting in the Tail, release date: March 23rd, Universal Music Enterprises) and a three-year mammoth tour, which will take them across five continents, one of the most successful rock bands in the world, SCORPIONS, will be ending their career. The band broke the news on their website on Sunday.

"While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was - and how much fun we were still having, in the process," said KLAUS MEINE. "We want to end the SCORPIONS' extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely gracious for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we've always had since the beginning." "So at some point," added guitarist MATTHIAS JABS, "it came to us to end our career with this exceptional album." RUDOLF SCHENKER stated, "The three year tour through five continents is meant to be a huge blowout, where we can party with our fans and say good-bye." "When I started out, I had a lot of wishes," SCHENKER noted. "It's crazy, I achieved more than I ever even dreamed of."

During their 40-year career, SCORPIONS sold over 100 million albums and received many awards, such as the World Music Award and several Echos--the German comparison to the Grammy. Today they still play sold-out venues around the world. Not long ago, 152,000 South Americans came to 15 SCORPIONS concerts between Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City. Their song "Wind of Change" has become an anthem for the fall of the Iron Curtain.

The tour will launch in the band's home country Germany in May. After that, they will be touring through North America before they continue their journey through five other continents until 2012.

Slayer Cancels Tour Schedule: Tom Araya Undergoes Back Surgery

Slayer's Tom Araya is scheduled for back surgery and as a result, the band is rescheduling tour dates for later this year. "Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."

This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

Disarray Magazine interviewed Slayer's own Dave Lombardo a few months ago about the band's oddest fan experience, upcoming plans and the latest buzz on the band's newest release. Check it out here: http://www.disarraymagazine.com/2009/11/were-good-to-go-with-dave-lombardo.html

Crush Club Delivers Hip-POP Beats and Fresh Style

When you combine Crush Club's smooth vocals, pop-electrofunk styles and fast rap flows, you get a musical concoction  that resonates with "cool kids" and dance-party fanatics everywhere. Hailing from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, Crush Club has coined themselves as a "Hip-POP" group delivering bona fide catchy hooks and robo-party beats.

Their debut album titled, Clothesline, Vines and Digital Love contains a handful of upbeat songs that will surely be a staple in everyone's playlist. Put it this way, if Chromeo, N.E.R.D,  Kanye and Gym Class Heroes had a love-child, they'd name it: CRUSH CLUB.

Disarray Magazine caught up with Dave Sack and Bryce Ross-Johnson to discuss the band's beginnings, their first album and their plans for the future. Check it out:

Here's a transcript of the interview:

Disarray Mag: We’re here with Crush Club. Go ahead and introduce yourselves.

I’m Dave Sack. I’m the DJ.

I’m Bryce Ross and I’m one of the lead singers.

Disarray Mag: Alright, so tell me a little bit about Crush Club.

Bryce: Well, we all go to school together at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Me and our guitar player are the only people that still play what they came to the school for. [Points to Dave] He got in for trumpet, I know that’s really lame, and Nick got in for drums and he hasn’t played drums at all. Let’s see. I walked by Nick’s room, the other lead singer in the band, he makes all the beats. My first semester at Berklee and I heard some music blasting from his room, knocked on the door and I was like, “Hey man, what song is that? I really like it.” He’s like, “Oh it’s something I made.” I’m like really? He invited me in. I was trying to make this Paper Planes remix – it sucked and he started to help me. That’s how we got started making music. Then, Nolan came in and started playing guitar solos because we wanted to do something interesting like hip-hop, electronic music with a little bit of guitar in there, you know? Like N.E.R.D. Then, Dave just finished off the whole thing by playing the music for us. He’s the pause and play button [laughter].

Dave Pretty much. By those standards, I just press play. Pause and play. Stand there, I’m just eye candy. [laughter]

Disarray Mag: So, tell me how you came up with the name Crush Club?

Bryce: It was just an idea for a band name that I had a long time ago.

Dave: I was up one night. [laughter]

Bryce: Yeah, seriously. No, when I was little, I was never invited into the club where you had a crush on people. I don’t know, it sounds good and it flows well and people take it however they want. Like one guy… Dre’s producer actually heard a bunch of our stuff and was like, “Man, I really like the name too, like crushing you know what I mean (in like a very parental advisory way) and other people are like, aw you have a crush on people, your hearts crushed. So, it can mean whatever you want. It was just an idea.

Disarray Mag: Alright, how would you describe your sound?

Dave: Hip-POP.

Disarray Mag: Who are some of your major musical influences?

Dave: It’s hard to say but Mos Def, Madlib, MF Doom,

Bryce: [snoring]

Dave Oh, well excuse me.

Bryce: I like B.O.B, Blink 182, Kanye and Lupe Fiasco.

Disarray Mag: Alright, and I know you guys just came out with a new album?

Bryce: Our first one. The name of the album is Clotheslines, Vines and Digital Love. There are 10 songs on it and Nolan, our guitar player actually thought of it, over the summer – We were thinking of album names and we just liked it because it was random, and it seems like it would sound like our CD.

Dave: Like Crush Club.

Bryce: But it turns out, which really freakin’ sucks dude.
[Asks Dave] Did I tell you this?

Dave: No.

Bryce: The Jonas Brothers have a CD called Lines, Vines and Troubled Times and it’s like the same freaking thing! I can’t stand the Jonas Brothers. Oh no! I didn’t say that [laughter]. I didn’t say that all you 13-year-old girls.

Disarray Mag: So, where can we see you guys next? Do you guys have any live shows lined up?

Dave: Ohh…

Bryce: I wish we did. We can’t really book shows four months in advance because we won’t be all together again until summer, but I know for a fact that over the summer we’re going to be going on tour with G-Eazy, a rapper originally from Northern, CA. Hopefully, we’ll get to open for this group in Northern, CA called the Cataracs that we met at CMJ. They’re really good and they have a good buzz up in the Bay area.

Disarray Mag: Is this going to be a national tour or is it just going to be the West Coast?

Bryce: Just CA, just up and down the coast.

Dave: We’re just trying to expand.

Bryce: Yeah, expand the buzz , the vibe.

Disarray Mag: So, where can we find your music?

Dave: Online, Myspace [laughter] iTunes…

Bryce: That’s it, actually.

Dave: Youtube if you want to look at videos of our past shows, dorm videos. There’s a couple acoustic versions of our songs thrown on Youtube. It’s pretty sick.

Both guys: Big shout out to Unified People, G-Eazy and Wreckonomics. Love. Crush Club

Andrew W.K. Says He's Not A Victim of Mind Control

Andrew W.K. spoke to ongoing allegations that he is neither part of a conspiracy or a victim of a huge spider's web of corporate entertainment plots. In an unedited personal statement (also available on his website at: http://www.andrewwk.com/index.php?page=page.php?id=64), Andrew has stated the following in response to the claims made against him:

"Since 2001, I have been accused of being part of a conspiracy in which I knowingly entered into a contract with creative directors called Steev Mike, who proceeded to invent a new identity for me to perform under. I'm here to say this is simply not true and a gross exaggeration of easily explainable and common-place music industry practices. Of course I work with people who choose not to include their whole names or real names in the credits, or who aren't on stage with me during my shows - but taking advice and guidance from other people doesn't mean I'm a victim of mind-control. That's like science fiction! Andrew W.K. is about partying and doing what you want! We want fun, and that really is what I am about.

These lies have unfortunately been with me since my career started - critics were saying I had to be a fake puppet for the record industry because I appeared over night. These simple untrue allegations have grown over the years to the point now where I have to defend myself. I have done many interviews and talks where I have explained the nature of how I got into music, and I admitted that I did work with people. But people have still taken what I said and tried to call me a liar and a fake. What alarms me most about these accusations is that they remind me of witch trials: The kind of people who accuse me of being a talking head for some secret conspiracy to corrupt people's morals are the same people who claim MTV and Cartoon Network are owned by secret rulers of the world out to poison kid's brains, or that pop stars like Beyonce or Lady Gaga are part of some occult society, or that companies like McDonald's, Coca-Cola, or Hollywood are secretly promoting hidden plans. Or that the President of the USA is just a figure head and reading a script given to him by a secret world power. Come on!

We're working in a business where there are different ends and different means. No one controlled Frank Sinatra or told him how to sing. No secret group of managers has been telling someone like Jay-Z what to do or how to look. And no one tells me what to do, except me and the people who believe in me. I am a real person who thinks for himself and am not the victim of anyone or group of people trying to influence my career or life. I take responsibility for everything in my life, including who I work for and what happens to me because of it. Just because a person has mentors or advisers doesn't mean they don't have their own brain and soul. And just because I work with other people who advise me doesn't mean that I am a puppet for an evil cult or a have some sort of master plan. I make party music - plain and simple. In fact, it is me who is the innocent victim of a conspiracy of critics and haters who don't believe in the power of music and pure true fun. It is us artists who are the victims. It's crazy that still today, brand new artists like Lady Gaga have already been dealing with the same sort of paranoid allegations that I've has been dealing with since 2001. It just doesn't stop! We are not puppets, we are human beings.

Musicians are not acting, we are real people. We are not part of a conspiracy! It's really intense when people are telling you who you are, so I'm going to tell them who THEY are! On behalf of all musicians, the entertainment industry, and everyone else who's ever been falsely accused, YOU ARE NOT HURTING US AND YOU ARE NOT STOPPING THIS. The party will continue! We will endure! It has become too common for musical artists and performers to be labeled as part of some global scam to control the world, or that we're puppets for a larger agenda designed to hurt people. That's why I'm speaking out and loudly declaring: I am not evil and neither are any of my other fellow members of showbusiness. We are here to bring fun and light into the world, not doubt and darkness. I have been accused of having people design my image, tell me what to say in interviews, design my clothes, the way I look and talk, and of course my music. It's true I do work with people, but not to accomplish anything bad, just the basics that any person does in this business and with this opportunity to live out my dreams.

I have always admitted that I worked with people and I have confessed that time and time again, even if the critics twisted what I said. I did this hoping it would quiet people up and put an end to all the speculation and exaggeration. I was never an actor and the partnerships I made with friends, family, and the companies I've worked with have all been to promote entertainment, excitement, and fun - to give people something fun to focus on and to occupy our thoughts, instead of a bunch of fear or negativity.

I will always keep my focus where it matters most:

1) On being grateful for the incredible people who believe in the feeling I work to create

2) And on that magical feeling itself: BEING ALIVE!

Long live music and long live life. PARTY HARD!"

- Andrew W.K.
