LAFW Recap: Project ETHOS Spring 2014 at Avalon Hollywood

Drawing in over 1,500 fashionistas, the Avalon in Hollywood was the hot spot Tuesday night as Project ETHOS hosted its annual L.A. Fashion Week event, which was sponsored by Scion. Project ETHOS prides itself in discovering the hottest up and coming musicians, artists and fashion designers. In 2010, we watched a not-so-famous Bruno Mars grace the Project ETHOS stage. In 2011, we saw the debut of Will.I.Am's "I Am" fashion line and on the same night, we watched Pete Wentz debut his musical project, The Black Cards. Luckily, for L.A. natives, we get to enjoy live music, runway shows and art installations at L.A. Fashion week bi-annually. If you weren't able to make it to the event, we documented it for you.

The event kicked off with choreography from Haus of Gaga dancer Michael Silas. Watch as the dancers work it to Britney Spears' track, "Work Bitch."

First to hit the runway was Ermelinda Manos showcasing feminine form fitting dresses. The collection's palette ranged from nude to bright yellow and royal blue shades. Certain looks got an extra dash of softness with lace added into the mix. At the very end, the best was saved for last and a very Jetsons-esque royal blue dress graced the runway.

Marialia was next and transported guests to the 50's by delivering rockabilly pin up inspired looks paired with sequins.

Next on the runway was Kristen Dorsey Designs + Lauren Stucky's collection. We saw intricate jewelry paired with leather looks creating an edgy modern feel.

Next on the runway was Michael Kaluva's Tumbler and Tipsy. As soon as the collection hit the catwalk, the crowd was introduced to vibrant colors, bold designs and MC Hammer pants. See below:

Tumbler and Tipsy also showcased their new S/S 2014 varsity jackets and snapbacks.
Next up, Sebastian Professional took the catwalk with a theatrical hair show. Watch as they demonstrated their EvoTech collection.

Once Sebastian Professional finished, there was a small intermission and we wandered the venue and snapped a few photos:

While wandering the venue, we spotted an awesome Project ETHOS attendee wearing a sweater reminiscent of one of our favorite 80's movies, JAWS.

Photo was taken with an iPhone 5 and no flash.
Unfortunately, we had to bail during intermission but Project ETHOS summed up the end of the night best:
The second fashion show brought designers Alex Vinash, Krammer & Stoudt, CA by vitamin A, and NBC's Fashion Star favorite GLAUDI by Johana Hernandez presenting a line up of Spring must haves. Rollasole debuted their most recent sole-saving vending machine in the main lobby.

The art gallery, located in Bardot and presented by Midori, the original melon liqueur, featured live performances from jazz artist Matt Von Rodrick, visual installations from Miguel Big, Leah Devora, Brittany Thurston, Michael "Malafiura" Fontana, Chelsea Knight, C. Harvey Smith and Cutter Cutshaw. Lab Art, the largest street art gallery in the nation, exhibited three of their resident live artists, Mar (aka This Means Mar) who created a Midori inspired piece, Annie Preece and LeBa.

L.A. based band YACHT rocked out to a packed house, followed by an encore fashion show by Alex Vinash and Tumbler and Tipsy. DJ sets by DJ Stubbs and DJCJ took the party until 2am.
Unfortunately, we missed out on Yacht but here's a Vine clip courtesy of Robert Vallejos.

Editor's Note:
We had a lot of fun at the event and it was great meeting new faces and seeing familiar ones including Brianne Bear and Felix Foto!

BEAUTIFUL RIGHTS Gives Women’s Rights Some Real Lip Service

Beautiful Rights is here to give women’s rights some real lip service. This new, cause-driven makeup initiative, founded by renowned makeup artist and product developer, Kristen Therese Leonard, was created to ensure that women’s rights continue to be given their share of voice in our country’s future.

As we enter into 2017, real concerns regarding women’s rights are upon us. Beautiful Rights was created to remind every woman to speak up, and that the responsibility lies within each of us to protect the rights we’ve fought so hard to acquire.

Beautiful Rights will promote women’s rights by donating 20% of all sales (not profits) to organizations that support our causes, such as Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, Emily’s List, Lambda Legal and Legal Momentum. The 20% contribution is set as a reminder of the fact that women in the U.S. still get paid 20% less than men for doing the same work.

Not only will Beautiful Rights fuel great initiatives, it will also provide women with top-of-line…
