Review: La Colombe Coffee’s Pure Black
16 hours. That is how long Colombe’s Pure Black coffee steeps in stainless steel wine tanks. The coffee is cold pressed and filtered twice in a process that is free of oxygen ensuring each bottle is fresh right until the moment your twist off the cap. There are cocoa tones in the coffee’s flavour to be sure but, and if you're into black coffee this is the coffee for you. It's fine without sugar and the main reason is the low acidity. In general, a cold brew coffee can has 67% less acidity than other brands.
La Colombe Coffee Roasters is an East Coast third-wave coffee chain that started in Philadelphia way back in 1993 by Todd Carmichael. La Colombe, which means “the dove,” in case you slept through 11th grade Spanish, has some really cool packaging. The bottle is likely the classiest thing in my fridge. They recommend it over ice but, I think it is fine straight out of the bottle. Split between two glasses with ice and if you want a little milk it easily serves two people. This bottle coffee uses La Colombe’s Nizza or “Corsica Blend” and with over 220 mg of caffeine per bottle, you will feel ready to conquer the world like that other famed Corsican, Napoleon Bonaparte.
